We were delighted to see that the mathematical sciences and maths educators, and users of mathematics have been recognised in the 2023 New Year’s Honours List. In particular:
- Dan Abramson, Headteacher of King’s College London Mathematics School was awarded an OBE for services to education;
- Partha Dasgupta, Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Cambridge was awarded the Knights Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire
- Charlotte Francis, Head of Mathematics at St Catherine’s Catholic School, Bexleyheath and CEO of Biankha and Friends and Tutall Ltd was awarded a BEM for services to education;
- Paul Glaister, Professor of Mathematics and Mathematics Education at the University of Reading was awarded a CBE for services to education; and
- Kanti Mardia, Senior Research Professor at Leeds University was awarded an OBE for services to Statistical Science.
- Sian Thomas, Chief Data Officer at the Department for International Trade, was awarded an MBE for Public Service.
