We are delighted to announce that the Policy Unit of the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences has been established with the appointment of two Policy Analysts, Dr Vinesh Maguire Rajpaul and Thomas Chi Wah Law.
Vinesh and Thomas joined the Academy in October and November 2023, respectively. Vinesh is an applied mathematician and astrophysicist by training and was involved with policy work alongside an academic career before joining the Academy. Thomas served as a public policy advisor on a wide range of domestic and international policy issues, including advising the Hong Kong government on trade negotiations. You can read their full profiles on our Staff page.
During this crucial set-up phase, the Policy Unit will support the proto-Academy in planning and delivering policy and advocacy work, as well as producing pieces that show the community and other stakeholders the potential and value of a full Academy. They are currently working on a number of projects on policy research relating to maths education and the people pipeline across the UK, in addition to a policy and communications initiative to showcase the excellence and diversity of the UK’s mathematical sciences community. You can read more about the Policy Unit here.
