Professor Ian Strachan

Advisory Board

Ian Strachan is currently Professor of Mathematical Physics and also Head of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, at the University of Glasgow. He is a Past President of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society and hence former member of the Council for the Mathematical Sciences. He has also been a member of the EPSRC’s Strategic Advisory Team.

Ian started his career as an undergraduate at Cambridge and a postgraduate student at Durham. After fellowships at Oxford and Newcastle, he became a lecturer in pure mathematics at Hull University before moving to a lectureship in applied mathematics in Glasgow in 2003.

Ian’s research interests are in integrable systems – particularly at the intersection of geometry and physics.
